News

Since 1985, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has celebrated July as National Park and Recreation Month, a month dedicated to highlighting and celebrating the benefits of parks and recreation throughout America.  Each July has a different theme to add focus on an important community factor. This year’s theme, We Rise Up for Parks and Recreation, brings special attention to the parks and recreation professionals. Every day, parks and recreation professionals rise up for their communities through their service. This month is the community’s chance to rise up and show their support and appreciation in return.

Spread the Word

As economic developers, we understand the important role parks and recreation play in our community. They are essential for local residents having a high quality of life, enjoying being here and for new families looking for a place to work, live and play. Parks and recreation can also serve as an economic driver through tourism. When people visit our community to play at a park, participate in a tournament, or use our recreation facilities, they often spend money locally on food, gas and even shopping. Such occurrences benefit local businesses and create jobs for local residents.

You can help boost our economy and make Riverside more attractive to tourists and future residents.

Share posts about our summer events on social media. Invite friends to visit, leave positive reviews on Facebook and Google and become an ambassador for our community. Here are a few events worth mentioning.

#1 Community Yard Sale

Community helps shape identity and identity is an important part of economic growth and development. What better way to tighten the bond of an already strong community than a community yard sale? July 28 - 31, 2022, Riverside will come together and repurpose personal items. As the saying goes, “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure.” This is a great way to recycle community dollars and maintain community connection. Check back often using the link above as details are still coming together for this wonderful event.

#2 National Night Out

Community policing and firefighters’ community outreach are rare finds in many big cities. Riverside understands policing and firefighting are community efforts. Police officers and firefighters work for us and with us. August 2, 2022, is National Night Out– A night of festivities, fun and fellowship with all of our police officers and firefighters. One of the most important relationships for a community to have is with their emergency responders. Hope to see you there!
